• What is PRSI Cover?
PRSI is a tax that is taken at source when you are paid, it gains you certain benefits for employment, leave, dental and optical.
• Before 2009, what did PRSI cover in dentistry?
Before 2009, PRSI covered the majority of dental services, either totally or partially, this included cleaning twice yearly, fillings, crowns, root canals and dentures etc. This was cut in December 2009.
• What does PRSI cover now?
Since 28 October 2017, if you are PRSI qualified, you are entitled to a full dental examination (including xrays) once a year. You also have a single use ''voucher'' of €42 towards a scale and polish or deep cleaning once a year. At Gentle Dental, the remaining balance you must pay yourself for a scale and polish is 15 euro.
If you don't use your voucher before December 31st of a given year, the voucher is lost, it does not roll over.
• Do I qualify for PRSI cover? How do I find out?
If you would like to know if you qualify, just ring or email us with your PPS number, and date of birth, we can use the departments online dental checker to see do you qualify. If you have an appointment with us, we will always check with your permission to see can you benefit from this scheme.
For more details on how PRSI entitlement is decided, you can read http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/disability_and_illness/treatment_benefit_scheme.html which details the payments on the scheme.
